The inspiration for the office came from the Sabre brand itself, a complex interplay of geometric kites in an Escherian layout that perfectly illustrates the seamless connections and interconnections the intricate technology provides to the airline, travel, and hospitality industry. The design team at Alset Sdn Bhd serendipitously looked to the Sabre brand philosophy as inspiration for the unconventional office space.
One of the standout features of the Sabre Travel Network Malaysia office is the angular corner space in the award-winning Ilham Tower. Wide triangulated leaning glass panels with diagonal Brise-Soleil structures outside give off the perfect impression of an airport control tower, which is matched by a standing counter reminiscent of an airport bar. The office space itself is a play of geometric shapes coming together, representing the physical manifestation of the technology it represents.
The office is designed with functionality and efficiency in mind. The open space layout allows for better interaction between staff and clients without infringing on the private working areas. It can also be transformed into a multifunctional event space for corporate functions by opening the frameless glass wall panels of the adjoining conference room. Additionally, a private nook for tea-breaks allows for natural sunlight illumination, creating depth and layers to the overall ambiance while enjoying the urban view of the street below.
The design team utilized a combination of materials and technologies to bring the Sabre Travel Network Malaysia office to life. Timber, powder-coated metal, acoustic panels, LED lighting, laminate, vinyl, and carpet tiles were used for the flooring, while solid surface tops and visual merchandising elements added to the overall aesthetic.
Designing for the Sabre Malaysia office presented several challenges. The angular floor space and tapered glass curtain wall posed difficulties in space planning, as nothing was in a straight line. Additionally, the existing metal ceiling slabs prohibited any ceiling mounting. Despite these challenges, the design team successfully created a functional and visually stunning office space that adhered to the strict building rules and sustainability goals of the Ilham Tower.
The Sabre Travel Network Malaysia office has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2020 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The office's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world through fulfillment and positive feelings have earned it this esteemed accolade.
The Sabre Travel Network Malaysia office is not just a workplace; it is a testament to the power of design and innovation in creating a harmonious and functional environment. With its geometric layout, innovative features, and seamless integration of technology, this office sets a new standard for corporate office design in Kuala Lumpur.
